The Geeks Shall Inherit YouTube This Week

Apparently, being a geek has become chic and now geeks are getting the last laugh with Geek Week on YouTube. From August 4 to 10, the video-sharing site is hosting a week of geek entertainment on more than 100 channels. The lineup includes series premieres, brand new videos, and creative collaborations all geared toward geeks. The event is being produced by Nerdist in the U.S. in collaboration with Channel Flip in the U.K. PCMag.com featured more geeky details.

“Today’s obsession with all-things-geek has sparked a global community on YouTube, enabling fans around the world to express their love of superheroes, comics, gaming, science and sci-fi,” according to Google-owned YouTube.

A different YouTube channel is slated to host each day of the weeklong celebration. A special video will introduce the day’s theme and new content will be launched throughout the day. Some highlights include Blockbuster Sunday’s celebration of iconic movies and shows, along with Gaming Thursday’s real video games and game-inspired movies, and Fan Friday’s sci-fi-focused cooking and nerd debates. Yet the star of the schedule will be Super Wednesday when the exclusive trailer for Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World will be revealed by comic-book sensation Stan Lee.

Bringing a social element to the geek glory, YouTube is offering collectible badges all week hidden within floating Easter egg graphics.

YouTube first experimented with theme week content with May’s Comedy Week. That witty week featured gags from popular comedians, along with laughs from clever websites and a variety of funny features.

Now, YouTube is celebrating Geek Week with all-new nerdy content designed to glorify the geek mystique.
