The selfie starred Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o, Kevin Spacey, and Bradley Cooper, who had the role of snapping the legendary photo. Ellen DeGeneres smiled in the center and then tweeted the shot on the spot with the caption, “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars.”

The selfie shattered the retweet record in 34 minutes and exceeded 1,300,000 retweets in under an hour. In addition to breaking the record, the tweet also “broke” Twitter for some users when its popularity caused the official @TheAcademy account to crash and apologize twice.

This Hollywood moment even pushed politics aside for a moment by beating the previous record of 778,424 retweets held by President Obama after his re-election in 2012.
